Thursday, November 12, 2009 Meeting

The meeting of the Bluebonnet Guild on Thursday night was a huge success!

The Bluebonnet's afghan is completely finished and looks absolutely GREAT! Karen Scarberry showed it and there were many oohs and ahhs. We have some spectacular knitters in the guild, as the pictures of the squares in the preceeding blog points out. Each and every person who completed a square of the afghan should give themselves a pat on the back. The creme-de-la-creme was the braided edge completed by Mary Anderson. This is truly a work of art. There was a discussion in regards to the raffle and where the proceeds should go. As we firm up the details, information will be posted.

There was a good group in attendance, and the group that was there was very interactive. I came away with more really good tips than I have in a long time. Karen Scarberry showed us how to put in a zipper in a sweater to make it look like it came off the Paris runway! Toni Tharpe had just completed a great sweater with a zipper and she also gave us some great tips.

The tips that came from the gang were a Simple La-La Shawl from Ravelry. Patti was knitting it and it would make a wonderful Christmas gift for that special person. Mary Anderson was knitting washcloths with cotton and tulle. What a great idea for a scrub cloth for that person on your list that is difficult to buy for. Websites were shared from Ravelry, GarnStudios, AnniesWoolens, and on and on!

The evening was just very special in many ways, but the sharing is the best part of this guild.

We missed the other members who weren't there, but we look forward to seeing you in December. Please mark your calendars to attend the Christmas party at MiMi's Cafe in Grapevine. Details will follow.

I hope I didn't get anyone's name incorrect.

Goodnight and happy knitting!

The Proposal,
PG-13 @ 7:45PM
With Sandra Bullock, Ryan Reynolds
When high-powered book editor Margaret faces deportation to her native Canada, the quick-thinking exec declares that she's actually engaged to her unsuspecting put-upon assistant Andrew, who she's tormented for years. He agrees to participate in the charade, but with a few conditions of his own. The unlikely couple heads to Alaska to meet his quirky family and the always-in-control city girl finds herself in one comedic fish-out-of-water situation after another. With an impromptu wedding in the works and an immigration official on their tails, Margaret and Andrew reluctantly vow to stick to the plan despite the precarious consequences

Or for those who don’t want to be out as late:

Up, PG @ 6:50PM
With Jordan Nagai, Edward Asner, Christopher Plummer
Carl Fredricksen spent his entire life dreaming of exploring the globe and experiencing life to its fullest. But at age 78, life seems to have passed him by, until a twist of fate (and a persistent 8-year old Junior Wilderness Explorer named Russell) gives him a new lease on life.

May 14th - Guild Meeting - Double Knitting

Jen of Pie Knits is coming back and teaching us the wonders of double knitting. Double knitting can be a lot more than simply making an item double thick! In this program you’ll see examples of the many different versions of double knit from single strand, to double strand, tube within a tube, colorwork, single thickness to double and back, circular knit worked flat, brocade, and trapunto (stuffed) double knitting. Then learn how these techniques can be applied in a variety of ways to things like hems, button bands, bag bases and more!

April 9th - Guild Meeting - Illusion Knitting

Ever wondered how those illusion patterns are made? Shelly Hattan, who's candy cane illusion dishcloth was featured as a Monthly Dishcloth last November, will be showing us how to chart and create your own design!

We will also talk about the Nash Farms Outreach this month.

Finally, April has been designated as the last chance to commit to doing a GAP square. Please be honest with yourself. If you do not have the time to finish a square, please bring your yarn and pattern so we can see if someone else will volunteer to finish it up. All squares should be done by the next May meeting.
