January 2016 Meeting

Happy New Year, Everyone!

I came to the shocking realization that Knitapalooza is now only 2 months away!  I am not sure if I am excited or if I want to run.  Oh well, as Scarlet says, “I’ll worry about it tomorrow!”

On to the exciting January meeting, we are having Alissa Barton speak on how to “Tame Short Rows”.  Alissa is a good friend of our Guild and an excellent teacher.  I am very excited that she has agreed to come lead our meeting on Thursday.

We have also had a request from Warm Up America.  Billye Paul White and I are going out next week to put tags on items.  If anyone would like to go with us, please let me know.  Also they are asking for volunteers to hang the scarves on Sunday, February 14.  Let me know if you are interested.  Here’s the email Jenny sent me.

Last year, Warm Up America! teamed up with the Dallas Yarn Bombers to hang knitted and crocheted hats and scarves in four Dallas locations that were in need. This event took place in February and received quite a bit of media attention with all the local news stations and the Dallas Morning News.

We are planning on this same event happening on Sunday, February 14th this year and wanted to see if you group would like to get involved!  We still have to finalize all the details but here is what would be involved:

You would be teaming up with WUA! and other local organizations to put tags on hats and scarves and then hanging them on that Sunday, Feb 14th in specific Dallas locations. These scarves are free to the public and most of the hats and scarves were taken within hours. Again, this should also gain more publicity so we would like to promote WUA! and the other groups helping with the event.

You group may donate hats/scarves for the event, as will WUA!

Our meeting is Thursday, January 14 at 7:00 pm
                              The REC in Grapevine
                              Municipal Way (Off Main Street)
                              Grapevine, TX.

See Everyone on Thursday!
