Happy New Year! ! !

Good Morning Everyone,

I hope everyone had a very, very nice Christmas.  I can't actually believe Christmas is over and the New Year is upon us.

Our Christmas party was an exceptional success and we missed everyone who was not able to join us.  Hopefully we'll see you in January.

In January we are starting our Knit-Along project.  It was voted on at the Christmas party we would do the Carol Anderson of Cottage Creations, Rambling Rows Jacket for the Family.  We are able to order the patterns direct from Cottage Creations for $3.50 per booklet.  Please email at knittwins@yahoo.com if you would like to order the pattern.

This pattern can be done in any size from Child's 1-3 all the way up to Adult Extra Large, 51" finished chest.  It is completely optional if you would like to do the knit-along with the group.

I have attached the yarn requirements for this project and really do hope you will join us in making this classic sweater pattern and technique.

Our next/first meeting of the New Year will January 9.  I look forward to seeing everyone then.

Happy New Year and Happy Knitting,

Dixie

Happy Holidays, Merry Christmas, Happy New Year ! ! !

There are things you expect in Texas and then there are surprises.  The surprise today was a much welcome, office closed, snow day!  I always like winter when I have no where to go, and nothing is expected of me!  Lots of reading and knitting time which is always a delight!

Our Christmas/Holiday dinner is next Thursday, December 12.  We are having it at MiMi's CafĂ©, Hwy 114, Grapevine, in front of Target.  We will meet at 6:30 pm with dinner at 7:00.  Remember as part of the festivities, we will be having a "Dirty Santa" gift exchange.  The gift should be minimum of $10 and something knitted related is fun, but remember comfort gifts are also very nice this time of year.  This is a fun activity, but not a requirement,

I hope to see everyone on the 12th!  Dixie  STAY WARM1

Gobble Gobble, November is here!

Hello Everyone, I can't believe we are only three weeks away from Thanksgiving.  It doesn't seem possible this is our 3rd meeting of the 2013-2014 year.  Our programs this year have exceeded expectations and I can't wait for the one on the 14th.

Edee B is going to show us how to do the Cat Bordhi, Moebius Scarf.  If you would like to make a Moebius for that special someone in your life, be sure to bring worsted weight yarn, size 7 or 8 circular needle, at least 40 inches long.  (It won't work with a shorter length needle.)

If you would like to prepare for the program please check out the Cat Bordhi Moebius cast-on shown on YouTube.com.

Thank you Kerry, Cissy and Jacki, for putting on programs that have been fun and very educational.  I look forward to Edee's program too.

Don't forget to plan to attend our Christmas party and meeting in December, details to follow.  We will go to a different restaurant for dinner and have a $10 minimum crazy gift exchange.  I hope you plan to join us.

Our November meeting is going to be at McAlister's, Kimball Avenue, Southlake, TX.

Hope to see everyone there!

New 2013-14 Knitting Year

Let the new season of knitting begin! Our first meeting of the year is going to be on Thursday night, September 12, at McAlister's Deli, on Kimball Avenue, Southlake. Kerry Buescher has gone above and beyond to plan exciting and useful meetings this year.

For the first half of the year, looking foward to Christmas, we are going to be looking into the area of gift giving ideas. We are starting September with learning how to make a useful scrubbie. Cissy Dawson is doing the demonstration and has asked us all to bring a K-crochet hook. More surprises will be unveiled as the year begins.

Come to the meeting with your annual $25 dues and your name will be put in a special raffle (a great gift). Of course, you must be present to win this special prize. Our regular raffle will also be held with another outstanding gift.

See everyone in September.

May Knitting Workshop

I am so excited, less than a week away from the Bluebonnet Guild's very first workshop.  I am enclosing all the details, but if anyone would like more information please email me at knittwins@yahoo.com.  Unfortunately, we are at full capacity and I am extremely happy about that.  We should have a GREAT day and a ton of fun.  Alissa Barton will be teaching the class on how to "Knit/Duplicate your Favorite Sweater".

Here are the details for members who will be attending:

It is at the Quilter's Dream, 6409 Colleyville Blvd, Colleyville, TX. The time is 10:00 am to 4:30 pm.

Please bring the sweater you would like to copy with you. Do not wear it, because we will be measuring it and studying it.

Make a 6x6 swatch, in the yarn and weight you want to use. The design you want to make should be knitted in your switch to get an accurate measurement.

Bring your lunch, knitting needles, yarn, sweater to be copied, measuring tape and a smile. You can bring your own drinks or Quilter's Dream has drinks available for a small fee. The Bluebonnet Guild will provide dessert.

This should be a wonderful learning experience, and I look forward to seeing everyone Saturday.

May 2013 Meeting

We had a terrific meeting in April and I am really looking forward to our events in May. May 9th we are going to have our last official meeting of the year. It is going to be at MiMi's Cafe on Hwy 114. It is right in front of the Grapevine Target.

It was voted on and decided that we will do a Yarn Ball Exchange. This is completely voluntary, so if you would rather just exchange a ball of yarn, that works too. If you don't want to participate that is perfectly fine, we just want your company and a pleasant visit.

Rules on Yarn Ball Exchange: $10 skein of yarn in DK or worsted weight and gadgets to be included to total $20 for the entire ball. If you do not want to make a Yarn Ball and just do a yarn exchange bring a $10 skein of DK or worsted weight yarn to exchange with co-members.

See everyone at Mimi's.

The Month of March is upon us!

It is exciting times for Bluebonnet Knitting Guild, March is here!

Number 1 on the agenda, our next meeting is Thursday, March 14 at McAlister's Deli, Kimball Avenue, Southlake.  Alissa Barton, better known as the Knitting Fairy, is going to do a program on how to design and make hats from the top down in a variety of sizes.

Number 2 on the agenda, we are now approximately 2 weeks away from our 2013 Knitapalooza.  Remember that reservations need to be submitted by March 15.  We have a fun day planned and have some great prizes for everyone!  Hope to see everyone on the 23rd.

Number 3 on the agenda and this is the final thing, our workshop is on Saturday, May 11 at Quilter's Dream, Hwy 26, Colleyville, TX.  It will be from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.  Plan to bring a sack lunch and the guild will supply desserts, tea and water.  Alissa Barton is going to do a program on how to design and knit that favorite sweater in your closet.  She will have details on the 14th.  You will need to register to attend, because unfortunately we can only have twenty people.  We are starting with active members and then reaching out to community from there.  I will do a poll in April on our Yahoo Groups to determine the number of interested members.  The cost will be $10.

I look forward to seeing everyone on the 14th.

Happy Knitting

January / February Meetings

WOW, what a GREAT meeting we had in January.  We had a very good turn out, 24 members, a great program, by Melanie Gibbons, and some light.  Melanie did a very interesting program on designing socks and my needles and I are waiting for some good yarn to get started.

We announced the winners of the Master Knitter Scholarship:  Sherry Smith, Patti Stapleton and Edee B.

We are going to have our February meeting on the 14th.  I realize this is Valentine's Day and some members will be attending a retreat, so we are going to have a laid back fun knitting night.  We are not going to have a program so bring your favorite project and we'll spend time knitting and getting to know each other better.

Make sure you register for the 2013 Knitapalooza and plan for a fun day!

See everyone on the 14th of February at McAlister's Deli, Kimball Road, Southlake.
